Guelph needs more of this … Integrated & useful neighbourhoods

By | I Love My Neighbourhood | No Comments

All neighborhoods need the fundamentals like road infrastructure, schools, grocery stores (unless you’re in the East End apparently), some parks and greenery. But, we are very quickly running out of land in Guelph and we need to quickly start thinking about building more useful and integrated neighborhoods. For example, there are very few community centres in Guelph.  Social clubs, sports teams, networking groups, special interest classes and hobbyists are ALWAYS begging for space in Church basements, school gyms, warehouse spaces, you name it.  It may not always be financially, environmentally or spatially viable to build community centres all over the…

More than just function in The Junction

By | Buying, I Love My Neighbourhood | No Comments

When we speak of Guelph neighbourhoods, there are a few that immediately come to mind…we all know what ones I am speaking of, but that my friends, is not what I want to talk about. There is another little hood that you may not have heard about, and this pocket of the city is called The Junction. Tucked away, just west of Edinburgh Rd and north of Waterloo Ave, this dynamic neighbourhood is just bustling with activity. It all starts with the tree lined streets, the houses are packed to the brim with charm. The location –  it is closer…

Living rural with kids

By | Buying, I Love My Neighbourhood | No Comments

Living rural. Is it for everyone? Probably not but I really like it! There is lots of peace and quiet and a real sense of space and privacy. No traffic jams or crowds of people. I love hearing all the birds, seeing real living things and smelling fresh air. Backyard fires in the summer and fireplaces burning wood in the winter. Living rural could mean being in a small village or a country property. Either way there is a large sense of community which helps provide a sense of security. As a mom of three children aged 4.5, 3 and…

Onward Willow – There’s no place like home

By | Buying, I Love My Neighbourhood | No Comments

Last year, I was fortunate enough to purchase a home.  Major milestone.  I am happy to have a coffee with you some time to explain that story further, but for now all you need to know was this was big move for my family and I.  We knew the criteria was: 4 or 5 bedrooms (lots of kids lets remember), at least 2 bathrooms, a good-sized yard, character, in the Downtown area…….and as inexpensive as possible. Done. I’m a Realtor, and at this point I will just keep my eyes and ears open. Maybe we will buy in a year…

It’s all good in Rockwood – Chapter One

By | I Love My Neighbourhood | No Comments

So here we go! Chapter One in my little series of blogs about why I just LOVE living and working in Rockwood, Ontario. There is nothing too fancy here, it’s just me speaking for my heart about the place I call home. I love living in Rockwood, for dozens of reasons, location, access (to cities great and small) and so many other reasons, but this time of year, it’s all about one magical evening – The Rockwood Farmers Santa Claus Parade of Lights!    Our first Christmas here in Rockwood was 12 years ago now.  Our neighbours had told us…

Grange Hill – Detached Homes by the Numbers

By | I Love My Neighbourhood, Selling | No Comments

Having lived in the Grange Hill East for the last 6 years, I have seen its landscape change.  Grange Hill is a fast growing community. Several new developments have popped up quickly in the last 6 years adding more detached, semi and town homes.  Even with its growth, the East End is still a well kept secret. It’s a quick 25-minute drive to the 401 via Guelph Line – which makes its accessibility to the GTA huge (HUGE!). The trails are fantastic and endless and now include a great sports park.  The schools in the area are great and are…

I Love My Neighbourhood | Grange Hill

By | I Love My Neighbourhood | No Comments

As I was out trick or treating with my “little sister” and nephew the other day, I was walking around my neighbourhood and got a chance to explore a few streets I hadn’t really been on much before.  I love this end of town, and have for as long as I can remember.  East Guelph, (also known as “Little Erin” for us Erin/Hillsburgh imports) is the place where my friends and I bought our first homes.  It’s where many of us started our adult lives … home ownership, putting down roots, starting families, growing and living.  It feels like home….

I love my neighbourhood – Grange Hill

By | I Love My Neighbourhood | No Comments

Being born and raised in Guelph, I’ve had the opportunity to live in various neighbourhoods of this fair city, and each of these special areas have their assets and special memories. I spent most of my childhood growing up in Guelph’s “south end,’ which many would now call the centre of Guelph. There is a saying that you never forget your childhood friends, a statement which I believe fully. I remember helping clean my friend’s dad’s transport truck in an empty field off of Scottsdale where a branch of the Guelph Public Library has shelved books for many years now….

I love my neighbourhood – Imperial South

By | I Love My Neighbourhood | No Comments

My last move in Guelph plopped me on the very West side of Guelph, in the section we Realtors call Imperial South. I was moving into a house that the former owners of 20+ years were downsizing out of. The neighbours on either side of me were also long-term homeowners on my street and I’m fairly certain when they realized a single guy in his early twenties was moving into the house next to them, they cringed at the thought of the 24 hour partying and noise complaints that would surely come with it. Fortunately for my neighbours that was…

I love my neighbourhood – Pine Ridge / Westminster

By | I Love My Neighbourhood | No Comments

If you’ve lived in Pine Ridge you know what I’m talking about. This little slice of south-end heaven is unique – different. The community was built and designed by Thomasfield Homes, a quality builder in Guelph and surrounding areas. It is Thomasfield that thought of details that have created an oasis in an unlikely location. Demand here is high. And the appreciation in value of these properties is proof. Nature! We all crave it and this neighbourhood delivers. Driving in, you will notice well-manicured and mature medians and round-abouts. Deciduous trees and evergreens are adorned with festive lights during the…
