Thinking about making a move? Then it’s probably a good idea to start freshening up your home & get it looking its best! Sounds expensive, right?
It doesn’t have to be.
We understand that not everyone has the money, (nor the energy) to update a kitchen, remodel a bathroom or lay a new floor. But don’t worry, this list is composed of things that everyone should do, no matter the home, and they don’t require you spending mad money! *If you do have the money to invest in your home, you should ask your realtor where it would be best spent.
Here are our top 3 suggestions to anyone prepping to move, (or revamp their space), without breaking the bank!
DECLUTTER! This is an obvious, yet often overlooked step. We all have stuff that we don’t use (or need) that fills up closets, floorspace and cupboards. Start by thinking forward and mentally packing. If you can’t see the item or piece of furniture in your new space, get rid of it. Out with the old and in with the new baby! You want potential buyers to be able to visualize their stuff in your home, without being overwhelmed by all of your stuff.
PAINT, PAINT, PAINT! Not only will this neutralize the palate (be smart when choosing colours!) and modernize the home, it makes the buyers feel like they are getting a new home. There’s something about freshly painted walls that give a home that fresh feeling. We strongly suggest you hire a professional or someone with great attention to detail to do the job- buyers are very smart and can tell when a job has just been thrown together!
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, CLEAN! Nothing says pride of ownership like a sparkling clean home. This goes back to decluttering – the less “stuff” you have in your space, the easier it is to maintain. Walking into a clean home provides the buyers with a sense of ease; it makes them feel as if the home and all its mechanicals have been loved and cared for.
So, if you have even the slightest tingling of moving or switching things up, contact your realtor and talk about your options! It’s never too early to start doing your homework!
P.S. Don’t be surprised if along the way you fall involve with your home all over again!
